National Nuclear Science Weekis a national, broadly observed week-long celebration to focus local, regional and national interest on all aspects of nuclear science.
During the week, educators, students, employers and the community will participate in a national recognition of how nuclear science plays a vital role in the lives of Americans…and the world. Activities during the week are intended to build awareness of the contributions of the nuclear science industry and those who work in it every day.
The SRS Community Reuse Organizationand its affiliated Nuclear Workforce Initiative are collaborating with national and regional organizations to host activities in South Carolina and Georgia that will be featured for this year’s observance of National Nuclear Science Week.
From advances in nuclear power and nuclear medicine to the vast nuclear technology in use at Savannah River Site, our region has a great deal to celebrate. Programs for the week are designed to encourage education and awareness of these nuclear technologies and the many careers available within the nuclear industry.
Colorful posterswith facts about nuclear technology will be distributed for display in schools and workplaces throughout the Region.

Students can interact with current nuclear professionals, view interesting exhibits and learn about “hot” career topics in the world of nuclear technology – from nuclear medicine to emerging energy technology. Click on “agenda” for details.
At the Welcome Session students will hear Simona De Silvestro, driver of the No. 78 Nuclear Clean Air Energy IndyCar discuss the bases of IndyCar racing and nuclear technology.
Students will choose one morning and one afternoon breakout session. Each session offers a lively and informative look at careers and nuclear technology in action from people who work in nuclear technology everyday.

During lunch students will hear Suzy Hobbs Baker’s presentationon “Diary of a Nuclear Tourist” where she will discuss her experience traveling Europe as a nuclear tourist.
The afternoon Career Workshop will focus on leadership skills, image building, internship and co-op programs.
Students will also get the opportunity to meet Simona De Silvestro, driver of the No. 78 Nuclear Clean Air Energy IndyCar!
