Blue Ribbon Commission


The Department of Energy formed the 15-member Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future to identify alternative storage options and a strategy for managing the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle.

On July 29, 2011, the Blue Ribbon Commission (BRC) released a draft report for public comment. The public comment period ended Oct. 31, 2011. A final report with recommendations was submitted to the Secretary of Energy in January of 2012.

The SRS Community Reuse Organization (SRSCRO) has been proactive in expressing opposition to cancellation of plans to complete Yucca Mountain as the nation’s permanent nuclear waste repository.

Rick McLeod, SRSCRO Executive Director, provided testimony to the U. S. House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology on October 27, 2011 in Washington, DC concerning the draft recommendations. Here is a link to the written comments submitted for the record.
