DOE PROPERTY
Property Postings
As the Department of Energy’s designated Community Reuse Organization (CRO), we are responsible for working with DOE under a formal agreement to identify surplus property and equipment from the Savannah River Site and directing this property or proceeds to their most efficient use for economic and workforce development. Before any property is transferred to the SRSCRO, DOE performs reutilization screenings for SRS and other DOE sites to ensure that all personal property items are truly excess to DOE's needs.
Under the current DOE agreement, the SRSCRO is to make excess personal property available, first to private, commercial enterprises creating and/or increasing current employment opportunities and second to municipalities or non-profits that provide assistance or improvement to quality of life aspects in the SRSCRO region.
As part of the disposition process and in agreement with the current DOE agreement, the SRSCRO can charge for transportation and handling fees associated with the transfer of any excess personal property. The agreement also specifically states: “If the anticipated return from selling these assets on the open market are not significant or there is no job creation component in the intended use, the SRSCRO can justify the transfer of the assets to municipalities or non-profit organization for the transportation charge plus a handling fee or the SRSCRO can offer the assets at a discount to the expected market value as part of its assistance to the community. If the expected proceeds from the sale of the asset are significant and an open market sale can better support regional economic development activities and job creation, the SRSCRO may reject the request.”
If your organization is located in the Georgia counties of Columbia or Richmond, or the South Carolina counties of Aiken, Allendale or Barnwell, and is interested in being considered to receive excess property, please follow the procedure outlined below.
